Write a one paragraph summary of what happened during the book, timekeeper
In the beginning of the book, The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom, Dor begins to count time, with his wife Alli and his children. Sarah Lemon gets ready for her date and Victor Delamonte is diagnosed with kidney cancer. Victor then attempts to find a way to escape death. Eventually, he decides to freeze himself using cryonics and live another lifetime without his wife or family. Sarah's date is cancelled. Dor is imprisoned in a cave by God, as a punishment for creating time. Then, Dor is released and sent to earth to find two people: one who wants too little time and one who wants to much time. Sarah goes on a date with Ethan, but Ethan completely ignores her after it. Dor explores Earth and begins to understand it more and more. He continues his search for the two people he must find. Dor begins to work at a clock shop, where he meets Sarah and Victor. Sarah buys a watch to give Ethan and arranges to meet him on Christmas. When she meets him, she tells Ethan how much she cares about him, but Ethan makes fun of her and leaves. Sarah becomes more depressed and miserable and feels terrible about herself. Victor sets the date to freeze himself on New Years Eve. Sarah makes the choice to commit suicide when her mother leaves for a New Years Eve party by breathing in toxic fumes from a car, in a closed garage. Before either Sarah or Victor can continue on these paths, Dor stops time, using the hourglass by stopping one grain of sand from falling to the bottom. He brings them to the cryonics warehouse right before Sarah commits suicide and just before Victor freezes himself. Dor shows Sarah and Victor their futures if they make these poor choices. Sarah's mother is heartbroken and Ethan is unaffected by her death. Victor becomes an exhibition for a futuristic race of people on Earth, trying to remember how to have emotions and feelings by watching Victors memories. Victor also watches his wife, Grace, find out his plan to selfishly leave her and start a new life in another century. Both realize that their choices are wrong and want to change these mistakes. Dor becomes progressively weaker and eventually collapses after he shows Sarah and Victor their futures. They bring Dor to the proprietor of the clock store, who is God, the man who imprisoned Dor. The proprietor tells Sarah and Victor that it is never too late, or too soon to change things. Then he takes the grain of sand from Dor and lets it fall into the hourglass, restarting time. Dor is back home, where he grew up and counted time. He goes back to Alli, his wife and stays with her as she dies. Dor is dying at the same time, from the same disease as his wife. Dor and Alli both die and go to heaven. Victor Delamonte wakes up and aborts his plan to freeze himself and spends the rest of his life with Grace. Sarah also wakes up and she gets out of the garage. She goes to the emergency room with Victor. Victor pays for Sarah's education. Sarah then finds a cure for kidney cancer, the same disease that Victor suffered from, although Victor passed away before she found the cure. This novel gives us the message that every moment is precious, and that time is not ours to give, or to take away.
